FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION

by David Gilks

Ok, those of you have tried everything to get fit of lose weight but did not succeed please stand up. Great, wow, that many. How many things have you tried? Have you tried a hundred things? No, how about fifty things? Twenty things? Less than twenty? Oh, you've tried three things! So you obviously haven't tried everything. In my pursuit to find the keys to fitness success for my clients, there is a common scenario that keeps showing up again and again.

Surprisingly enough, it's not genetics, age, gender or money! It's lack of follow through! And the excuses for not following through are many! How sad. Why do you suppose that so many simply stop just short of the goal line and walk home with the head hung low? Well, there are many factors, but the most powerful stumbling block that we face is that we simply do not believe we will be successful. We hope to get into shape, we hope to look and feel and better, but we don't have the expectation of success. And with that mind set the story simply repeats itself over and over again. But it doesn't have to necessarily work out that way. Our brain is an amazing, powerful and under utilized tool and is the key to your fitness success! In every personal development book I have read, each author has offered the same basic advice, write your own horoscope. Our brain as wonderful as it is. cannot distinguish the difference between something that we imagined and a real event! If that is the case, let's use that to our benefit. What fitness related goal have you been striving for? Is it a new body for next year? The last ten stubborn pounds? What ever you goal is you first must right down, but write it in the present tense. Confused? Let's try this.

If it's the new body shape you're expecting we will begin with the following written statement: "I love how this new body feels. I knew I could follow through and I deserve this success. I love my new weight at (fill in your ideal realistic weight)." Sound a little corny? Maybe but it works. It certainly better than repeating "I hate my fat, I hate the way I look, I can't wear anything except black!" Your brain only knows what you tell it, and if your mind and language patterns are always disparaging, you will only get more the same. Truly, your subconscious doesn't know that you really do not want to get fatter, but all it hears in the silly comments rolling around in your head and that unfortunately is all it can act on. It's that simple.

So write down on a recipe card the three fitness goals you wish to achieve in the next 4-6 months. Read it every day two to three times and days out loud and say it with conviction. You will begin to move almost unconsciously toward your goal!! Remember that money is a result, wealth is a result, health is a result, illness is a result, and your weight is a result. We live in a world of cause and effect and the results you get are based on the choices you make. Choose wisely!!
